Title : The Story of Chakina Toast
Date: 17/10/2025
Kashi Kata, a quiet and beautiful village in Natore district. The air in the village still smells of earth, birdsong and the touch of morning dew. Tukun Fakir lives in this village. Once upon a time, he was a prayerful, pious man. He worked in the fields, served people, and lived a hard life.
Tukun Fakir's only daughter is Chakina—a gleam of intelligence in her eyes and face. She studied in the village school, but her tastes were a little different. Chakina's favorite food is half toast. Before going to school in the morning or in the afternoon between studies—half toast is like a symbol of the joy of her life.
At first, she ate with her own money, but later she thought, “Why should I eat alone? If only my friends could eat a little too!”
So, Chakina would occasionally feed her friends half a toast.
Her friends would jokingly call her “Toastwali Chakina!”
Chakina would also laugh and say, “Call me or not, I like to feed toast!”
But as time goes by, the wheel of time turns.
Half toast, which once cost 50 taka per kg, one day became 100 taka.
The brokers, like bloodsucking insects in the market, secretly increased the price.
At first, Chakina thought, “Let’s go, we’ll eat it occasionally.”
But later, when she saw that the price of toast had doubled, her eyes opened.
One day, he got frustrated and said,
> "Even this toast has brokers! There are brokers in everything that goes into people's stomachs!"
As the days passed, singara took the place of half toast.
She thought, "Let's eat singara, it's cheap."
But after a few days, the price of singara doubled!
The singara that used to cost 5 taka is now not even worth 10 taka.
Chakina sighed and said,
> “Oh, there is brokerage in Singara too! Where should I go now?”
His friends laugh, some say,
> “Look, our toastmaster has become a thinker now! He sees brokers everywhere!”
But behind the laughter, a big truth was hidden.
Chakina began to understand that
this gang of brokers
had penetrated not only the market, but every level of the country—hospitals, animal markets, schools, jobs, and even the arena of justice.
Years pass. Chakina grows up, finishes her education and gets a job in the city.
When she receives her first salary, she thinks—
> “If Dad were here today, he would happily say, while eating half a toast, 'Dad, now you've earned money too.'”
One day, while going to the market, she is struck by old memories.
Standing in the shop, she asks, “Bhai, how much is half toast?”
The shopkeeper says, “150 taka per kg!”
A smile comes to Chakina’s face, but tears well up in her eyes.
She thinks—
> “I used to eat this toast for 50 taka once! After 20 years, the price has tripled! Alas, brokers!”
Returning home, he sat by the window and thought,
“Will this broker’s reign ever end?
Will people never return to faith and practice?”
A kind of regret settled in his mind.
An educated society, advanced technology—all this has happened,
but people’s conscience, sense of justice, and faith seem to have been lost.
Chakina often tells her students,
> “Fathers, to be a human being, you must first be honest.
No one grows up by being a broker.
Those who have faith do not violate anyone’s rights.”
Time passes, Chakina is now the headmistress of the school.
A piece of old half toast is kept in her desk drawer. It has become dry and hard.
When someone asks, she says—
“This is my past, my education.
This toast has taught me that
if you are not honest, brokers become kings in society.”
Every morning, she stands by the window and raises her hands in the sunlight and prays—
“Oh God, remove brokers from our society.
Awaken faith in people’s hearts.”
A smile of peace is on her face.
Because she knows—change will come one day,
if people want to change themselves.
Very short - comment if you like it, more to come.
